One of my current interests is in my Polish heritage. I’ve been enjoying creating folk designs referring to the styles of wycinanki (paper cutting) and pisanki (painted Easter eggs) in particular. Having grown up drawing animals and mythical creatures frequently, I am enjoying the process of bringing them to life alongside swirling botanicals and symbols. I use inks, acrylic, gouache, watercolour, pencil and shimmering leaf to play with the flourishing ornamental qualities of Polish folk art, while bringing my own style and love of natural forms to it. This is a project I enjoy working on between more conceptually driven work and is a relaxing process that is fun and, I feel, connects me to my ancestry.
